Trump announces US$15 billion defamation lawsuit against ‘New York Times’

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday night that he was suing the “New York Times” for defamation, claiming $15 billion in damages daily.

“The New York Times has been allowed to lie, slander and defame me freely for far too long, and it’s stopping, NOW!” wrote Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform, adding that the case would be tried in Florida (southeast).

“Today, I have the great honor of filing a $15 billion defamation and slander lawsuit against the New York Times,” the U.S. president said.

In his message, the president described the prestigious daily as “one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the history of our country”. He accuses him of being “a real spokesman for the radical left Democratic Party” and of having supported Kamala Harris during the last presidential campaign.

The “New York Times” has been “committed for decades against your favorite president (ME!), my family, my business,” it writes.

This is not Donald Trump’s first complaint against a media outlet that he considers hostile.

In July, he claimed at least ten billion dollars for defamation from the “Wall Street Journal” after the publication of an article attributing to him a salacious letter addressed to the financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
