Well, we know you’re looking forward to another strong dose of black comedy, but we’ve got some sad news for you: Helena Bonham Carter is leaving the cast of season 4 of the series “The White Lotus,” as confirmed by Variety.
“With filming for the fourth season of The White Lotus just beginning, it became apparent that the character Mike White created for Helena Bonham Carter did not fit the set,” HBO said in a statement.
“The role has been reconsidered, is in the process of being remodeled and will be redistributed in the coming weeks. HBO, the producers and Mike White are sorry that they will not have the opportunity to work with her, but they remain ardent fans of her and very much hope to work with the legendary actress on another project soon.”
The fourth season of the series takes place in France, including in Paris and in various locations along the French Riviera. The creator of the series, Mike White, also signs on as a writer, director and executive producer.
Last week, HBO announced that filming had officially begun on the French Riviera. “The fourth season will follow a new group of guests and employees of the White Lotus Hotel for a week, set against the backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival,” the official synopsis reads.
Hotels featured include the Airelles Château de la Messardière as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hôtel Martinez as the White Lotus Cannes. In addition to Cannes, the season will be filmed in Saint-Tropez, Monaco and Paris, although the story will remain on the Côte d’Azur.
In addition to Helena Bonham Carter, the full cast of Season 4 includes Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jode Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Phila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, Kumail Nangiani and Nadia Tereskievich, Chloe Bennett, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Charlie Hall, Jarant Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Snetzer and Laura Smet, among others.
